Exercise physiologist Lisa Shuban will lead our first interactive exercise activity; Lisa is an expert on getting our Type 2s moving and doing it safely. At the same time as we will learn how to better engage our patients we will burn some calories ourselves.

Artificial Pancreas

Kathy Spain RN, BSN, CDE, CPT is a  Member of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s research Lay Review Committee and author of Kids, Insulin Pumps and You...A Parent’s Guide to Insulin Pump Therapy for Kids; The Diabetes Answer Book; and The Diabetes Explorer Series will help us understand the latest research and development on artificial pancreas.

Glucose Sensors for Our In and Out Patients

Peter Simpson, Director of Sensor Technology at Dexcom will present the latest in Continuous glucose monitoring CGM and the latest and most inside scoop on the new inpatient CGM devises

U-500 Insulin

Michelle Lang MSN, NP, CDE, will help the group learn to navigate the U -500 insulin; Michelle has extensive experience with insulin resistant diabetes patients requiring the more concentrated solutions. She will deliver the basic education while sharing personal experience in the field

Polycystic ovary disease (PCOS)

. This presentation  will review the past, present, and future innovations in treating PCOS. A replacemnet speaker will be announced prior  to the program.

Blood Glucose Control During and Around Menopause

Dr. Stanley Korenman will  present a comprehensive review of diabetes in the menopausal years. This often neglected area of study has challenged educators as it encompasses such a large group of our patients with so little evidence based research. Male issues will also be addressed.  Bring your questions and case histories

Diabetes During Pregnancy

Dr Siri Kjos, MD has researched, taught and practiced maternal fetal medicine at Harbor UCLA.  Dr Kjos will share her experience in controlling blood glucose while assuring proper growth of the fetus and maternal euglycemia, she brings a real world experience tempered by academic excellence, and balanced with a practical and down to earth approach to care.

Gastroporiesis

Dr. Gregory Albers specializes in gastroenterology and internal medicine, he will help us understand the connection between digestion and glucose controls, how to recognize, diagnose, and treat patients with gastroporesis

Gastric Pacemakers

Dr. John Lipham, MD - a general surgeon at USC - has placed over 600 Gastric pacemakers in patient with gastroporesis. He will share his clinical experience,outcomes, and case studies.

Celiac Disease

Lynn Senacal will share both her clinical expertise and personal experience with celiac: how to diagnose it, control it and how to coach patients living with celiac, She will help us connect the dots between diabetes and celiac disease.

Transition to Adulthood: The Teenager with Diabetes

Dr. Gnanagurdasan Prakasam, MD - pediatric endocrinologist - speaks extensively about the challenges faced by our vulnerable teens, the social and emotional pressure of teenhood compounded by diabetes. As medical director of pediatric endocrinology for Sutter Health, Dr. Prakasam will share with us his strategies for anticipating this period of growth. In 2009, Dr, Prakasam hosted a college-prep summit for teenagers with diabetes and their families.

California Schools Diabetes Care

Kim Higgins RN, CDE and Lisa Monteleone RN, CDE will share the podium with stakeholders in California. The controversial court case will be explored from all perspectives.
